I am rich.
I am not rich because of the pennies, nickels and dimes I collect in a jar in the cupboard. It’s not measured by the recent bills that came in and wait to be paid. It’s not my bank account, and it’s not my paycheck.
I am rich because I am whole — all because of Jesus.
If you had asked me if that were possible years ago, I would have said that it is possible. Anything is possible, right? But I may have also shared why it would be so hard to find my way there. I didn’t walk around with an obvious wound, but it showed up in a hundred different ways. The primary symptom was feeling stuck by what I could not change.
I could not make myself feel strong.
I could not make myself feel secure.
I could not erase my past.
I could not feel comfortable in my own skin.
As I write those words, I rejoice because I am strong. I am secure. My past is not erased, but it’s simply a chapter in my story. I am comfortable in my own skin. I’d love to sit with my old self and tell her that it’s possible to move past those things we cannot change, and that every part of the process matters. [Read more…]
