I got a big, fat zero on a test
Not once. Not twice.
I’ve got a big, fat zero on every gifting or Strengths Finder or similar test over the past 20 years in the area of leadership or administration.
Now, that’s not a big deal, right?
That just means those aren’t my strengths. I’m an encourager, and a teacher. I’m empathetic. I score high in intellection (the process of understanding or research). I am a person of mercy.
Those are great things, unless God is leading you to do the one thing in which you score a zero.
Yep, that’s right. For months now, the Lord has been leading me to lead others.
So, what’s a girl to do?
Decide who’s in charge
If God is asking me to step into my weakness, that’s where I’m going. Even if there’s mistakes to be made. Even if I feel uncomfortable.
A right-now invitation simply means that we listen for where God is leading, and we say yes.
That might be to stand for truth when injustice raises its ugly head — and you aren’t sure what to say.
It might be pulling from a shallow well of patience — when your last nerve is frayed with your kids.
It might be believing that God sees what you don’t — and trust him anyway.21 Life Changing Invitations (as we walk with Jesus). Join us! #ComeWithMeDevo… Click To Tweet
The other day I walked into an elementary class with a book tucked in my hand. I was asked to be a mystery reader for my grandson’s class. As I walked through the halls, I was still wrestling with what it means to be a leader.
That’s when I saw these words written on the wall:
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.
I laughed out loud.
You see, this is my dream. It’s to inspire others to live free. To show women that they are loved, and how to follow Jesus. To scoop up others along the way. To discover how God sees them, and step into that freedom.
Oh, I guess God did.
If that’s the definition of leadership, I can do that, but it means that I drop the definition I was allowing to intimidate me.
When God is asking you to do something, success isn’t trying to fit a mold. It’s obedience. It’s discovering his version of success.
