In fact, right now I’m knee-deep in study and quizzes and all the things that go with it. This may not seem like a big deal, but it’s something I’ve been trying to do for a very long time. . .
I won’t go into all the details but each time I’ve went to college, I got knocked down. It wasn’t that I wasn’t trying. I was doing all I knew how. Working two jobs. Staying up late at night to study. Later, trying to be a mom and work full-time and juggle classes. The first knock-down was I simply ran out of resources. Later, a diagnosis of cancer was the one-two punch.
That’s why my heart beat a little faster as I applied for admission to the university this time.
Maybe you’ve been trying to do something for a long time. Maybe you did all you knew to do, and yet you still got knocked down. Maybe it wasn’t the first time, or even the second, and you wonder if you are crazy for trying again. Maybe there’s been words spoken over your heart that says, “This is not for you.”
Get back up, sis. Do that thing one more time.
Let the enemy know (and whoever else that needs to hear) that you are stronger for those past knock-downs. That you didn’t ask to be knocked down, but you didn’t let it keep you down. Getting back up is winning. Getting back up is strong. Getting back up says I’ll learn from that knock-down and take those lessons with me. Getting back up means that you trust those words God spoke over your heart, and that no season is wasted, even those in the dust.
There’s joy in getting back up.
You are anchored and rooted in the One who loves you like crazy. You have your eyes on him and nothing else. It may take time, and that’s okay. It’s not easy, and that’s okay too. You’re in this for the long haul and you’ll grow every step.
So, I’m cheering you on today. Praying with you. Fist pumping as we run this race #togetHER.

Go Suzie!! My husband earned his college degree 32 years after he began. His college degree was interrupted by the Vietnam Nam war. With our family’s encouragement he applied and was accepted to a college 31 years later, only to face colon cancer. Who, but God, knew that the treatment time would also provide study time? When I listened to More than Small Talk yesterday I like Holley and Jennifer wanted to throw an encouragement party complete with confetti. Cheering you on!
HIP HIP HOORAY for STUDENT SUZIE ! I’m so thrilled for & proud of you 🙂 I kept going back to school 4 times over many years. One thing you’ll find is that you have been learning lots when not in school:) I felt reassured by that. Go girl go.. that is a real Joy Keeper and Finder 🙂 I also would like to know about the November class, please. Blessing
“Getting back up is winning; getting back up is strong.” Thank for that bit of encouragement, Suzanne! Sometimes we wonder if we’re “pressing on” into a stone wall. But you’re right: we need to trust those words God spoke over our hearts, and remind ourselves that no season is wasted, even those in the dust. May God richly bless you as you attend classes, build new relationships, and learn lessons from experiences as well as from books!
